U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, a Republican from South Carolina, was taken to a local hospital after collapsing at an event in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
Wilson was attending a fundraiser for the Palmetto Family Council, a conservative Christian organization, when he collapsed.
Witnesses said Wilson was speaking at the event when he suddenly collapsed. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
His office later released a statement saying that Wilson was "resting comfortably" in the hospital and that he was "expected to make a full recovery."
The cause of Wilson's collapse is not yet known.
Wilson, 76, has served in the House of Representatives since 2001. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.
Wilson is a controversial figure. He is best known for shouting "You lie!" at President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress in 2009.
