Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers led to massive Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire on targets throughout Lebanon, including an air and naval blockade imposed by Israel.

Escalation of Violence

The conflict escalated further when Israeli soldiers opened fire on Hezbollah fighters approaching them, killing three. Hezbollah responded with rocket fire into Israel.

End of the War

The war ended on August 14, 2006, after an agreement brokered by the United Nations Security Council. Despite the ceasefire, sporadic violence continued in the region.
