Groundbreaking Porsche 963 LMDh to make its debut

Stuttgart. Porsche Penske Motorsport will be fielding two Porsche 963 LMDh hybrid prototypes in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) on June 10-11, 2023.

The Porsche 963 is a new generation of Le Mans prototype (LMP1) developed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach and built by Multimatic Motorsport in North Carolina. It is based on the LMDh regulations, which allow manufacturers to use a common hybrid system and chassis, with freedom to design their own bodywork and powertrain.

The Porsche 963 is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 bi-turbo engine, which is combined with a 100-kilowatt electric motor to produce a total system output of 680 horsepower. The car features a seven-speed sequential gearbox and will be driven by a team of professional drivers, including Nick Tandy, Felipe Nasr, and Andre Lotterer.

Porsche Penske Motorsport is a joint venture between Porsche AG and Team Penske. The partnership was formed in 2022 to compete in the WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche Penske Motorsport has a strong track record in endurance racing, with Team Penske having won the 24 Hours of Daytona 18 times and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2019.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most prestigious endurance races in the world. The race is held annually at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France. The 91st edition of the race will take place on June 10-11, 2023.
