Extended Hours for Public Holiday
Fremantle Prison, also known as Fremantle Gaol or Fremantle Jail, will be open to the public on Thursday, 25 April, ANZAC Day, from 9 am to 5 pm. Visitors can choose from a range of exciting tours to explore this historic site.
As the largest convict-built structure in Western Australia and the most intact convict establishment in the nation, Fremantle Prison offers a unique glimpse into Australia's colonial past. In 2010, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Built between 1852 and 1859, Fremantle Prison housed thousands of prisoners over its 136 years of operation. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world.
On ANZAC Day, Fremantle Prison will offer guided tours, self-guided audio tours, and access to the Fremantle Prison Museum. Visitors can learn about the prison's history, explore the original cell blocks, and hear stories of the men and women who were incarcerated there.
